and then there was kwallet
I just finished setting up my father’s laptop using Debian/GNU Linux (wheezy). Since he is used to working with KDE of course I installed it, although I don’t particularly like it. He also bought a 3G-USB-Modem to go online when not at home.
Upon setting up the 3G-Modem using KDE’s front-end to network-manager, kwallet insisted on being activated. Having a password store for your session is not a bad idea anyways. If only it would work as expected!
Now, anytime an application needs a password, you have to type the kwallet password. Sometimes even twice! So for example instead of just connecting to a wireless network by clicking the corresponding entry in the menu, now you have to ‘unlock’ the passphrase using kwallet.
I don’t see the point in that, but that’s probably because I’m too stupid.
PS: Of course I did not get the 3G-Modem to work; but that’s another story.
